Progress
Dear Family and Friends,
We are happy to share the news that Molly has nearly qualified for CART AML clinical trial at CHOP. There are a few steps left for all of this to come together, but at the moment, we can proudly and profoundly say it is not a fungal infection or lung issue that is holding her back!!
Her fungitell test came back at <0.5 (normal range). At the beginning of March it was at 2.015. This new test is after 51 hyperbaric treatments, along with isavuconazole. AMAZING! This time, we saw the image results of CT scan - in March, the left lung was nearly full of liquid. Monday, it was nearly all opened back up. There is still a small pleural effusion on the lower left lobe, but this at least puts her back to where she was months ago! Really, no one at the hospital can believe it.
If this comes together as planned (we can hope), then she will get the cells drawn via a 3-4 hour apheresis process at UofM next Tuesday. Once the cells are drawn, UofM will freeze them and then the next step of the process can proceed, which may include a bronchoscopy at UofM and will include a short physical trip to CHOP so they can evaluate her and we can sign the paperwork. There is still a lot to be done, but it has brightened Molly's spirits to see and feel the results.
She has been taken off of the chemotherapy for the time being so that she can hopefully gain some count recovery before next week (one of the hurdles). We will pray for this to be the case.
This past week she has been having extreme muscle spasms (at least that is the best way I know to describe it). It basically starts out in her left foot and moves up her leg into her torso and other leg. At times, her whole body is jumping around due to uncontrolled spasms. We are working with the doctors to try different things, primarily Neurontin. Her electrolytes are checked every other day, and those don't seem to be the issue. We are working to try and get to the root cause of the issue. It is possible it is the chemo therapy. Today has been better than yesterday, so hopeful that the changes are working.
A shout out to Grandma Peggy - it's her 50th(?) Birthday today - sending love to you Mom!
We are so grateful for all of your support - we truly thank you. Each and every one of you. Please keep praying for us all.
Peace and Love,
Emilie
