First days of chemo

Dear Friends and Family,

Molly started her first dose of chemotherapy on Monday, November 1. This was a very long day for us, as she showed up for blood draw at 7:30am and didn't get her port placed until 6:30pm. She was also without food/water all day (NPO) waiting for the surgery to happen. The deal was that she needed platelets and the process got all messed up between the services. Anyway, long story short is that she finally made it to her room on 7 East around 8:30pm and received her first doses of cytarabine and daunorubicin. Since then, she has continued to received cytarabine and will through day 10. She receives the daunorubicin on days 1, 3 and 5. So tonight, she will receive the 2nd dose of daunorubicin.

The nurses on 7 East are absolutely amazing! Molly's first nurse on Monday, Olivia, had Hodgkins Lymphoma as a teenager, and also had to receive the daunorubicin chemo. This was such a sweet thing for Aaron and I to see, as Olivia is healthy, in remission and thriving now.

As I mentioned in my previous post Molly wanted to change her hair color - so she decided for the look of FIRE! The daunorubicin has the nickname of "red devil" so she went with the fire theme. She really loves her new hair color! Molly also decided to cut her hair shorter, as it will all be falling out soon, so this will make the process a bit easier.

Some irony here - the hematology oncology docs that are rounding inpatient right now are led by the attending physician, Dr. Carl Koschmann. This is the same Doc that saw Xander the day we took him to the Emergency Department in January of 2012. Having an existing relationship with some of the doctors and nurses definitely helps in Molly's care. Of course, they are all sorry that we have to be here, but are eagerly wanting to help Molly kick this disease.

Aaron and I are working hard to keep everything in order and our business operating during this time. Xander is working to help at home as much as possible and keep up on his school work.  Thank you to all who have reached out - we couldn't get through this without your support.

Peace and Love

Dear Family and Friends, Molly has been fighting hard for nearly 10 months and her body is now shutting down. I wanted to get a quick note out so that everyone knows what is happening. We are all home with her trying to make her last days as comfortable as possible. Last night, we got her on a pain pump which allows her to be way more in control of the pain meds. Hospice moved her to Dilaudid which will give her more room to go up if she needs it. She is very short on breath, very angry at times and doesn't want everyone to stand around her and cry. Just a couple of nights ago, she had the energy to be with Xander and play a video game - we couldn't believe it and we were so grateful to get this time with her. She has eaten lobster twice this week - she got that gene from Grandpa Howie 💖  Please pray for Molly to pass with peace and love in her heart and no pain in her body. Blessings to you all, Emilie
